FAQs

About the Inn

What is the Inn's website?

Our website address is: https://www.arborinnofclinton.com

Is it the “Arbor Inn”, or “Griffin House”? What is the difference between “Griffin House” and “Williams St. Lodging”?

Our official name is “The Arbor Inn of Clinton”.  Under that umbrella name, we have two properties, one located at 3919 Griffin Rd. and the other at 8 and 12 Williams St.  To learn more about the history and why we used to be called “Griffin House”, check out Our Story!

Is the Inn ADA Accessible?

No, both locations, and especially our Griffin Rd location, which is a renovated 1850’s farmhouse, are not ADA Accessible.  There are many steps throughout the first floor at the Griffin Rd location, and three rooms, (Vineyard, Nantucket, Berkshire), are up a flight of stairs.  At the Williams St. location, both rooms have several steps leading to the front entrances of each room.

Who owns the Inn?

Hamilton College has acquired the Inn from its previous owners, Ellen and Dave Varecka, who have since retired.

Reservations

How do I check availability and/or make a reservation?

You may check availability or make a reservation by clicking the “Book Now” button online, at arborinnofclinton.com

Do I have to fill out all the information on the reservation?

When filling out the online reservation form, it is important to fill out all sections, to provide the Innkeeper with the necessary knowledge to accommodate each guest.

Whose email should I put for the reservation?

The email address is used to send the confirmation of the reservation, and any necessary communications from the Innkeepers, so you should put the email address of the point person for the reservation.  If you are making a reservation for someone else, please also include the guest’s email address and/or phone number, for day-of communications, in the “Additional Guest Names” section.

I am visiting Hamilton College, which location should I book?

Either location is ideal for anyone visiting Hamilton.  The Griffin Rd. location (Vineyard, Nantucket, Chesapeake, Rockport, and Berkshire), is right on the edge of campus, at the top of the hill, so if you do not have access to transportation, this location is best for visiting the College.  If you will have your own car, Williams St. (Suites 8 and 12), is just down the hill, at Clinton’s main intersection, and about a 2-3 minute drive from Campus.

How do I book at Williams St. vs Griffin Rd?

When booking online, you can choose the following rooms to be at our Griffin Rd. location: Vineyard, Nantucket, Rockport, Chesapeake, Berkshire.  To book at Williams St. you may reserve either #8 Williams, or #12 Williams.

Making Reservations for Someone Else

I want to book a room for a guest visiting the College, how can I do that?

If you’re booking a reservation for someone else, you may go through the website, or call the Inn (315 859 1790), and make sure to include the guest’s name.  If booking through the website, please also fill out the other reservation fields with the guest’s information.  The Inn Manager will need to know how many guests are arriving, any dietary restrictions, their arrival time, and any contact information for the guest(s), even if they are not the one’s paying for the reservation.

How do I reserve multiple rooms at a time?

The easiest way to reserve multiple rooms is to call the Inn at 315 859 1790, and let the Innkeeper know which rooms you would like to reserve for which dates.  Doing this will put all rooms on one confirmation, which will be sent to the email address provided for the reservation.

Who pays for the room?

The card provided on the reservation will be charged the night before check-out.

What information do I need to provide from my Department?

If you are going to charge to room to a Hamilton department, you will need to provide the Department GL code for the reservation.

What information do I need to get from my guest(s)?

At the time of booking, it is ideal that you have all of the following for your guest’s reservation: Name(s), Contact Information (cell, email), Dietary Restrictions, any Special Accommodations, Arrival Time.

Traveling to the Inn

What is the address for the Arbor Inn?

The Arbor Inn consists of two locations, one at 3919 Griffin Rd, and the other at 8 and 12 Williams St.  If you have booked any of these five rooms: Vineyard, Nantucket, Rockport, Chesapeake, or Berkshire, then you will type in 3919 Griffin Rd. to your GPS.  If you have booked either 8 Williams St. or 12 Williams St, you will type in either of those numbers to your GPS, as the room numbers also serve as their street addresses.

I’m at the Griffin Rd. location, which door do I use?

When you first arrive at our Griffin Rd. location, you may use the front door, on the right side when you enter the courtyard from the parking lot.  If you are staying on the left wing of the Inn, (Rockport, Chesapeake, Berkshire), you may also use the door on that side of the house to enter and exit to the courtyard and parking lot once you have checked in.

Check-in and Check-out

How do I check in?

To check in at the Griffin Rd. location, (Vineyard, Nantucket, Rockport, Chesapeake, Berkshire), you can enter through the front door, and the Innkeeper will greet you with your keys.  If you are checking in during our remote check-in period, you will receive a Remote Check-in email from the Innkeeper, which will explain where to find your keys, and how to get to your room.

To check into either #8 Williams or #12 Williams, you will enter the 4-digit door code you will have received in your email the morning of your arrival.

What time can I check in?

At our Griffin Rd. location, you may check in after 3pm, and will either be greeted by the Innkeeper, or given instructions for remote check in.  Between 3pm and 5pm, Arbor Inn staff will greet you in the front lobby upon check-in; check ins after 5pm will be remote.  When you make your reservation, you should designate at what time after 3pm you will be arriving to the Inn, so we can accommodate your check-in appropriately.

At 8 or 12 Williams St, check-in is completely remote, so you may check in any time after 3 pm, with your unique four-digit pin for the door lock.

When is check-out? How do I check out?

Check out is at 11 am daily, at both locations.

At the Griffin Rd. location, you may hand your keys to Arbor Inn staff directly, or leave them in your room with the door open, so we know your rom is ready to be cleaned.

At 8 or 12 Williams St, check out by simply pulling the door shut tightly behind you.

Can I request a late check-out and/or early check-in?

If you will need a late check out or early check in, please request this in advance, as we may be unable to accommodate last minute/day-of requests.  During busy times, early check ins, even when requested in advance, may not be able to be guaranteed.  If you have booked at the Griffin Rd. location and must arrive early, you are welcome to enjoy the common areas of the Inn until your room is ready.

Williams St. Lodging

How do I check in to my room on Williams St?

We offer completely remote check in at Williams St, any time after 3pm.  To check into either 8 Williams St. or 12 Williams St, you will enter the 4-digit door code you will have received in your email the morning of your arrival.

What address should I use for my Williams St. Suite?

For the Williams St. Suites, the address is the same as your room number.

For example, if you have booked 12 Williams St, you will type into your GPS: 12 Williams St. Clinton, NY 13323.

How do I find the door code for my Williams St. Suite?

Your door code will be sent to the email provided for the reservation in advance, usually the morning you are due to arrive.

Where is parking for Williams St?

Parking on the St. in front of your Williams St. Suite is often available, as is parking around the corner on College St.

During the Winter months, (Nov 1 – April 1), overnight parking is only available in the back section of the Clinton Village Parking Lot, on College St.  Additional information can be found in your confirmation email and/or Door Code email from the Arbor Inn, as well as inside your suite.

Where can I eat breakfast when staying at Williams St?

At our Williams St. Suites, breakfast is not included, but you can find local options right in downtown Clinton, or within a 10 minute drive to New Hartford.  Utica Coffee in Clinton is right across the main intersection from Williams St, and New Hartford has more choices for diners and cafes.  At 8 and 12 Williams St, your room number is also the street address, so you can also order breakfast right to your doorstep through your favorite delivery app.

Breakfast

Where is breakfast served?

We serve a complimentary homecooked breakfast in the main dining room each morning for guests who have booked at any of our rooms at our Griffin Rd. location.  At Williams St, you can enjoy the privacy of your own suite to order in or dine out at the local cafes and diners in the Clinton-New Hartford area.

What time is breakfast?

On weekdays, (Monday-Friday), breakfast is served at 8am, and will be cleaned at 9am.  On Saturday and Sunday, breakfast is from 8:30am to 9:30am.

What does breakfast include?

Breakfast generally consists of a hot dish, baked good item(s), and/or overnight oats, with attention to any guests’ dietary restrictions, and either set out at individual place settings in the dining areas, or made available for self-serve.  For lighter fare, there will be yogurts and granola/fresh fruits; and there is always a juice bar.  Coffee and tea are available 24/7 for guests at our Keurig stations.  You can always ask the Innkeeper for more details about breakfast during your stay.

Can I invite an additional guest to breakfast?

Additional guests for breakfast must be scheduled in advance.  The latest notice the Innkeeper will need is one day prior to the day you would like to have the additional guest for breakfast.  The best way to ensure your additional guest will be accommodated is to put it in the “Additional Guests” or “Special Accommodations” section of the reservation when reserving online.  Feel free to remind the Innkeeper of your additional guest the night before, and please make sure to inform the Innkeeper of any dietary restrictions your guest may have.

What if I have plans to eat breakfast on my own instead of at the Inn?

If you would like to venture into downtown Clinton or the surrounding area for breakfast on any of the mornings of your stay, please inform the Innkeeper the day before, to minimize food waste, and to get some personalized recommendations!
